I chose to write about how americans feel about being monitored at work, and how it has changed in the last 15 years. The second topic i chose was has cellphone use increased since 2004?Americans believe that it is wrong, and an invasion of their privacy. Some beleive it is ok because their employers have a good point as to why want to monitor their employees.Every time an employee used the internet on company time, it costs the company billions of dollars. My opion on this is it is wrong for the company to moniter the employees because i agree that it is invasion of privacy. I also agree with the employer because the employee should only be able to use the internet for company use only.

The reason for the increase in cell phone use is because of teens.94% of teens use their cell phone to call friends and 76% use it to send texts. My opinion on this is that it is good because it shows that we are evolving more and more in technology every day.

Unfortunately what you do in the work place does not belong to you. I have been to workshops presented by lawyers and they have clearly stated that your employer has the right to monitor you as they see fit. Even time away from work can be monitored as there are cases that have been upheld in court where employees have been fired because they were seen in public using a competitor's product. Like it or not that is the way the law stands at the present time.
ReplyDeleteTeenagers definitely make up a large group that brought on the use of cell phones but you can't forget about other major groups like the "20-somethings" and businessmen.
ReplyDeleteI think you make 2 good points. It is an invasion of privacy to a certain extent. Depending on the intentions of the employer. A lot of things could happen when you cyberloaf:Viruses, important information spill, waste of company money. So there are valid reasons for monitoring. But as I stated on my blog, the employer should let the employee know they might be monitored at work, so they can know what they are getting themselves into.
